Competition for the Palio
The much coveted drape among the five districts is conceived and designed by a student of the Academy of Fine Arts of Perugia.
The palio changes every year
THE PALIO
The palio is an artist’s prize, chosen each year from among the works prepared by the students of the Pietro Vannucci Academy of Fine Arts on the basis of the competition launched by Perugia1416. The result of the creativity of a student who, in order to participate, must therefore deepen the fundamentals of the project. The dissemination of knowledge of the history of the city, of its districts, of the values of the challenge are in fact the purpose of the competition that Perugia1416 launches to students. All elements that will be interpreted and described in the concept that will accompany the work: the reference to the historical period, the five districts, the values of social cohesion and of the challenge. The set is then evaluated by a commission; from the sketch, the winner palio is then reproduced on fabric. Perugia1416 awards the best project with a cash prize.
The Palio will go to the winning district together with the coveted collar with the Gryphon medal cast for Perugia1416 and passed from year to year to the captain of the winning district, who remains its guardian for one year. The palio, on the other hand, remains with the district which has won it and will jealously keep it with pride as a precious trophy.
